General Information

Meeting Dates and Times:

The PGRN Analysis Workshop IV will take place on Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008, from 9:00am to 5:00pm and on Wednesday, January 23rd from 9:00am to 3:00pm.

Format & Scientific Topics:

This is a small group, highly-interactive meeting with short oral presentations and extensive discussion. The purpose is to share state-of-the-art techniques and ideas for analysis of pharmacogenetic/genomic data. Volunteer presenters are invited to submit their name, affiliation, and title for their presentation by November 15, 2007. Depending upon the number of submissions, each participant will have either an oral or poster presentation, with talks from 15-30 minutes followed by group discussions. 

 

Participation by all PGRN groups and affiliates is encouraged.

 

Topics include but are not limited to:

Population admixture

Expression phenotypes vs genomics

Genome wide association analyses (GWA)

Validation and meta (combined) analysis for GWA

Bayesian approaches to model selection and False Discovery Rate

Pharmacogenetics in clinical trials

SNP array normalization for inference of copy alterations and other genomic lesions

Inference of shared genomic lesions in GWA

2008 Genetic Analysis Workshop (GAW) preparation

 

We will ask for an abstract, to be handed out in a booklet to meeting attendees, by January 10, 2008. You may forward your presentation to corennea.pleasants@stjude.org by 5 pm Friday, January 18, 2008, or bring your presentation to the meeting on a flashdrive. 

 

Meeting Location:

Board Room, second floor, Shadyac-ALSAC Tower, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (SJCRH)

332 N. Lauderdale Street, Memphis, TN  38105.

Parking is available on site at SJCRH campus for those of you who wish to drive/or have a rental car. 

 

Meeting Fee:

 

The $95 registration fee is due by Thursday, November 15, 2007 and includes admission to the two day workshop, 2 breakfasts, 2 refreshment breaks, and 2 lunches. Registration for trainees (post docs and students) is free.

 

Tuesday Night Group Dinner:

 

Please meet in the hotel lobby at 6:30 PM. In addition to the Main Street trolley line and transportation provided by our postdoctoral volunteers from the hotel to dinner location, a shuttle will be available at 6:30 PM for ride to the restaurant.

 

Dinner is at Harry’s Detour South Main (106 GE Patterson.) to start at 6:45-7:00 PM.

 

Audiovisual:

An LCD projector and computer (PC), overhead projector, microphone and laser pointer will be available.  Your presentation should be in Microsoft PowerPoint or PDF format.

 

Travel Arrangements:

Please make arrangements to fly into Memphis International Ariport. 

 

Transportation:

Attendees are responsible for their own transportation to the Marriott hotel upon arrival in Memphis. Taxis from the airport one-way run ~ $25 - $30. 

 

Shuttle service from the hotel to St. Jude will be provided by St. Jude security staff on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings on this schedule:

Please note:  If it is nice weather and for those who like to, the Marriott is an approximately 8 minute walk from St. Jude. Please ask Marriott staff for directions, and enter in the main entrance for the Patient Care Center.

 

Upon arrival at St. Jude, we will have volunteers positioned in the lobby of the Patient Care Entrance to direct you to the Board Room, which is on the 2nd floor of the Shadyac/ALSAC Tower.

 

If you will be driving to the campus, St. Jude security guards will direct you to parking and the Patient Care Entrance.

 

Shuttle service from St. Jude (at the Patient Care Center entrance) to the hotel will be provided by St. Jude security staff on Tuesday afternoon at:

Hotel reservations must be made by individual attendees directly with the Memphis Marriott Downtown , 250 North Main Street, Memphis, TN   38103, at (888) 557-8740 or (901) 527-7300 .

Please identify yourself as a member of the Group, 'PGRN Analysis Workshop IV-Memphis-St. Jude' for the room rate of $104.00 per night. All reservations must be guaranteed with a major credit card. The reservations should be made by November 15th in order to secure the group rate.

 

Hotel Parking:

Guest parking is available at the Marriott - Valet parking is $18.00 and self-parking is $12.00 per day.

 

Internet:

We’ve arranged for wireless internet access for attendees and will provide logon details in handouts which will be available in the Board Room on Tuesday morning.

 

Cancellations:

 

A full refund is available if cancellation is received prior to November 15th.  A 50% refund if cancellation is received prior to December 15th. No refund after December 15, 2007.
